Technical Glossary: ATerm IndexActiveXComponent technology developed by Microsoft. Allows programs or web pages to access pre-built controls to extend the functionality of the program. ActiveX technology is especially popular with using Active Server Pages (ASP) documents. ADSLAsymmetric Digital Subscription Line. A technology that allows extremely high amounts of data to be transferred using standard copper phone lines. Data rates range from ISDN to T1 speeds at a fraction of the price of standard technology for the same speed.The only catch is that this technology is not widely available yet. Many phone companies are only in the testing stages. There are still many differnet standards surrounding DSL, collectively called xDSL. Anti-virus SoftwareSpecial programs designed to find and destroy computer viruses before they destroy important information on your computer. ASCIIAmerican Standard Code for Information Interchange. A collection of numbers and letters in the Roman alphabet as well as some common computer symbols. Each item is called a "character" and they have been assigned a value from 0 to 255 so that the computer can use them. AuthenticationA technique used for users adequately to prove their identity on the Internet/Intranet.
