Do you have global TCP/IP settings entered in the Network Properties dialog
box?
Your global TCP/IP settings may conflict with the TCP/IP settings for your
connection to AlaNet.
Note:
Be sure to write down any settings that you change while performing
the following steps. If your computer is connected to a network and you are
using the TCP/IP protocol to access the network (in addition to the Internet),
you may need to change the settings back after the problem has been resolved.
To edit global TCP/IP settings
-
Click Start, point to Settings, click
Control Panel, and then double-click
Network.
-
On the Configuration tab, click the TCP/IP protocol, and
then click Properties.
-
On the IP Address tab, make certain Obtain an IP
address automatically is selected.
-
On the Gateway tab, make sure the following gateway address
is installed: 204.251.239.1 Enter this address in the white
space provided and then press Add.
-
On the DNS Configuration tab, verify that Enable
DNS is selected. Then complete the following: In the space beside
the word Host, type in your username unless your computer
has a name by which it is identified on a Local Area Network (LAN). In the
space provided by the word Domain type
ala.net
-
Next, select the WINS Configuration tab. Make certain
Disable WINS Resolution is selected.
-
Finally, press the OK button. This takes you back to the
original Network dialog box. Press OK once
more. At this point the system will prompt you to restart your computer.
If these steps solved the problem then there was a conflict between the global
TCP/IP settings and the settings for AlaNet.
