Posting Personal Web Pages on AlaNet

Step 5

Viewing Your Home Directory

The screen that returns after running the dir command. Your home directory may contain different files or folders. FTP opens your FTP session in your "home" directory (or folder) by default. You can type pwd to see the exact directory name of your home directory.

While you have this screen showing, see if you have a directory or folder named public_html. This is the directory were all your web site related files (pages, graphics, audio, etc).

If you don't see a listing for public_html then you will need to create it.

You can create this directory by typing: mkdir public_html

Then you should be able to type dir and find the public_html directory.
